Tutorial Steps
1. Process and Save your final timeline
2. Export a clip

1. Process and Save your final timeline

Typically the last step for any project is to output the media. First, you need to render the clip and then save it to the Library as most media management tasks are done from the Clip Library.

1. Start in the EditDesk with your final timeline.
2. Work in Record Timeline view (F5).
3. Click on the Timeline Selector to select the entire top layer (little square button on the left).
4. Click Process.
Save your Record Area to the Library:
5. Choose Record Area in the Item Box.
6. Be sure that your “Smoke_Essentials” library is selected in the Library box.
7. Press Save.
8. Enter a name for the new Record Area folder, such as “Essentials_Record_Final”

2. Export a clip

In Smoke, you have two options to send media out of the system: Output Clip to a tape (VTR out) and Export Image (file out). In this case we will export a movie.

1. Access the Clip Library that contains your clip.
To access it, click on the Library box on the EditDesk.
2. Select the clip you want to output to file.
In this case, select your final timeline.
Note that you can render clips inside the Library if needed, under Tools, select Rendering Tools.

tip Tip

To export a clip with an embedded alpha channel, you select two clips: the first one is the front clip and the second one will serve as the matte.

3. Press Export Image.
The Export Image module is displayed.
4. In the File Format box, choose the file type to which you want to export.
You can select to export a file sequence or a movie.
5. For example, select Quicktime.
6. Set the export options such as codec and resize.
7. In the browser, navigate to the location where you want the final clip to be saved.
8. Export the clip in the background by choosing Add to Queue and Execute under the Background Operations.
Note that the background export is the only option available when exporting to QuickTime.
Other image formats can be exported right away by clicking Export or by using background export as well.
This will allow you to continue working while the clip is exporting.

tip Tip

To view and manage export jobs in the background, you can swipe the lower-left side of the Export Image module. You can also press (CTRL+0) from any module in Smoke.
