Smoke has a proprietary archive format that maintains the Library structure. You can archive and restore selected clips, entire Smoke Libraries, setups or an entire Smoke project.
The file you just downloaded contains the Smoke Tutorials project and media.
Access the Archive menu:
1. Start Smoke with the project you created in the Create a Project & User exercise.
Note that the project you choose doesn’t matter as it is only used temporarily to access the Archive menu inside Smoke.
2. On the EditDesk, click Open to access the Library menu.
3. Choose Dual View.
4. In the Library, select the Archive menu.
Select the Archive:
1. In the Archive menu, click on the Archive path to access the file browser.
2. Use the up arrow to navigate the folders.
3. Open the directory that contains the file archive you have already downloaded and unzipped.
4. Select the file “Smoke_Tutorials_Archive_v2012”.
The archive consists of two parts; make sure you select the file and not the segment file with a .seg extension.
Restore the Archive:
1. Back in the Library menu, press Open to open the archive.
Notice that the bottom Library view now states: Archive.
2. Change the Archive option from Selection to Project.
*Important: We need this option because we want to restore a complete project not just footage.
3. You can expand the Archive folders to see its content.
4. Make sure you select the top folder “Smoke_Tutorials_Archive_v2012” to include everything underneath.
5. Press Restore in the Archive menu.
6. When the restoration process is finished, press Close to close the archive.
Switch to the Smoke tutorials project:
We just restored a Project Archive; now we need to switch to that new project.
1. Press Exit Library to go back to the EditDesk.
2. Press Preferences to access this menu.
3. In the Project Management section, click on the Project box and choose “Smoke_Tutorials_Project_v2012”.
This is the project that was just restored.
4. Press Load to load that project.
There is a little blue LED that indicates which project is loaded.
5. Press Exit Preferences.
Load the footage:
1. Choose “Smoke Footage” in the EditDesk Library Box.
2. Open the library.
3. Select the top folder “Smoke Footage”.
4. Select the option Saved Position (to load the thumbnails as there were saved).
