Hello everyone, I’m running 2012 sp3 on my new machine and I don’t think I’m seeing the performance that I should be seeing. I’m running 64bit windows7, core i7-2600k, 16gb ram, and a gtx580. I’m seeing lag at around level 8 using the base sphere. This is around 25 million polys. A brush size of around 10 is lagging when drawing on the surface. There’s also some slight stuttering when zooming in and out. Is this the correct performance for my hardware?

zooming is always laggy… cause mud is swapping from system to gpu ram… but the sculpting should be smooth and without a lag…

Thanks for the quick response Oglu. I figured there was something wrong here. Any ideas for how to troubleshoot this? I’ve tried reinstalling my graphics driver. Do you think a reinstall of Mudbox would change anything? At level 8 on the sphere the sculpting is lagging to the point where it’s pretty unworkable. Especially if I’m working with a brush size larger than 10.

Mudbox is seeing my hardware correctly according to the help menu>system information. I’ve pasted this below. It just doesn’t seem to be performing for some reason.

tested it now here with my geforce 480 and its also lagging with a brush size of 10…
so it could be ok…

i recommend to go one level down and do your work there.... im jumping all the time up and down…
in such high polycounts you shouldnt use a brush bigger than 5…

Thanks a lot! I was just simply trying to see how high I could go with my new machine. I figured I could push up closer to 100 million. I was kind of surprised to be seeing lag already at 20.

Since I have you here Oglu, I have a question for you if you don’t mind answering. It probably doesn’t belong here but, After snooping at your Armed and Dangerous Thread I noticed you work with the smooth shade turned off in Mudbox. Would you mind explaining this? Is it simply because it is closer to Zbrush that way or you like the feeling of it better?
