Is it possible to make object/material A the "dominating", so that B's geometry and shading is not visible inside A? Boolean is not an option as it applies to a huge amount of objects. I'd like the rendering to look pretty real and I'm not sure how to handle the corners. Either a displacement map, or is there some way to modify the wall surface to look like shingles? I need to import this to After effects later. I've done some research on the matte/shadow/reflections material, and I am unsure how to use it, and not sure if I can b/c it assumes the final production is going to be on 3DS. So I was wondering how I can go about doing this? I wanted to recreate something like what this guy did (randomly searched): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TQCXsuwWOYc Thanks a lot! 2012-05-03T14:44:24+02:00 Applying a texture to a bent surface http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-3ds-max/materials/applying-a-texture-to-a-bent-surface/page-last/ http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-3ds-max/materials/applying-a-texture-to-a-bent-surface/page-last/#When:13:46:33Z I cropped an image of a mushroom texture, converted it to bmp, made a black & white version of it, made it a bmp and saved it to my sceneassets. I added these to my diffuse and bump materials of a mushroom I made. The mushroom is bent twice in the X and Z direction to make it look like it has a tilt while also curved inward. I collapsed these, added a smooth modifier, collapsed that, and then added my materials. At first the diffuse image was much to large, so I added a UV Map modifier and reduced the size. As soon as I did this, a particularly bent end of the mushroom cap become extremely stretched, I added an image for your discretion. I’m on Windows 7 32-Bit using 3DS Max 2013 Student Version 4-Core I-7 CPU @ 1.6 GHZ; 4 GB Ram, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4500/5100 Using the standard renderer. If I should either use a different image, change values in the UV Map modifier, or if there's no other option, I guess I can create a new mushroom and apply the modifier before the bend and smooth are collapsed. Please let me know which would be the most tactful approach. Thank you for your time. 2012-05-03T13:46:33+02:00 trial materials question http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-3ds-max/materials/trial-materials-question/page-last/ http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-3ds-max/materials/trial-materials-question/page-last/#When:21:32:30Z Does 3ds Max 2013 trial version come with all of the materials or the full version? I want to achieve this but with the Arch & Design material as well, but I fail to do so, the result is always a texture surrounded by black no matter what the diffuse color is. Is there a way to do that?thanks in advance 2012-05-01T08:14:00+02:00 Which version to choose? http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-3ds-max/materials/which-version-to-choose/page-last/ http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-3ds-max/materials/which-version-to-choose/page-last/#When:07:55:47Z Regarding the differences between 3ds Max 2013 and 3ds Max Design 2013....does Design come with all of the materials that are included in Standard Max? The modeling phase is done, no problems there... however, when it comes to materials and texturing, I always have this problem where I can't get the object to look realistic. I was wondering if you can shed some lights on that. This is a render I made for an alley (without the buildings, test render) http://i.imgur.com/y1ap5.jpg . As you can see the sidewalk and the street part look really bad. I downloaded the textures using cgtextures.com (http://www.cgtextures.com/texview.php?id=51962&PHPSESSID=hi2hq6p24cgumi1go9c8qo5qn5) that is the sidewalk texture. I applied a UV Map modifier to the object and scaled it to be as small as possible. When I render however, I get this ugly look. Any tips on how to get this looking better? Is this because of the render settings set to low (to test) or is this something with the texture? I even tried the Mental Ray materials at mrmaterials.com for concrete and still it looks bad. Thank you very much in advance. 2012-04-29T19:32:59+02:00
