Starting with the 3ds Max 2011 release software download will replace shipped DVDs as the default method of delivering software upgrades to most Autodesk® Subscription customers worldwide.
If you would prefer to receive the 3ds Max 2011 software upgrade via DVD instead of via download, you need ton set the delivery preference to “box” by signing in to Subscription Center and update your profile info. Don't worry, if you forget to get to this before the First Customer Download (FCD) date for 3ds Max 2011 you can still request a DVD by submitting a request in Subscription Center and Autodesk will ship a DVD at no additional cost.
On the FCD date software download gives Subscription customers immediate access to the 3ds Max 2011 release. It’s more convenient than installing upgrades from a DVD. And, it’s a more sustainable choice!
Autodesk will continue to ship 3ds Max 2011 DVDs to Subscription customers in some countries as the default delivery method. However, these customers will also have the option to download the release.

re:"So I'd like printed docs, but if your primary argument against is the loss of trees, why wouldn't Autodesk also release a Kindle/Nook/eBook/pdf version of the full manual."
Trees are one thing the other is the cost. Go pick up your DVD Case, now go pick up 3 or 4 telephone books. Shipping depends on size and weight, and when it comes to manuals that can be a hefty cost.

| Here's my item for the Suggestion Box - - first off, I LOVE printed docs because there are a LOT of times I want to read about my software when I'm not in front of the computer. So I'd like printed docs, but if your primary argument against is the loss of trees, why wouldn't Autodesk also release a Kindle/Nook/eBook/pdf version of the full manual. I own an iTouch with pdf reader (COLOR!) and a Nook (b&w - sad), and it would be nice to be able to read docs on one of those (probably nicer on the color Apple product) - - what say you?

| yes, the download will be posted to Subscription Center for all 3ds Max/Design Subscription customers. it might not go live in all areas at the same time but should be within a few days of the FCD date.
