View Full Version : Different textures on each face of cube.

I use XSE only occasionally... it seems that when I start a new project, after not having used it for a few weeks, it is like reinventing the wheel...

I know this is excruciatingly simple...but I much appreciate a push in the right direction.

All I want to do is create a cube with a different image texture on each face. But apparently the cube is one object and I cannot select each face and apply a texture projection to each face separately?

Anyway... can someone just point me in the right direction in terms of how best to proceed?

(I figured this would take a few minutes, but I have spent an embarrassing amount of time thus far on what should be a very simple task.)

you could make each face a cluster, give each cluster its own material and projection, or a simpler way would be to comp all the 6 pics into 1 strip and use the texture editor to place each poly on the relevant part of the comped pic.

I've been working with the first suggestion... but I'm getting weird results.

I'll start over...

1. Get primitive/polymesh/cube.
2. I thought I could just click on one of the faces (via "u" key) to select a cluster... ???

u just gives you poly selection mode. you need to select a poly then make it a cluster. then you can apply materials, projections etc to the cluster.

Sorry...I just now figured that out... click "polygon" selection, then click face.

Now...

* Get material (phong)
* Then...property/texture projection/ (nothing shows -- no green handles)

Have a look at THIS (http://s237.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/AceMastermind/?action=view&current=applying_multiple_textures.flv) video, this is just one of the ways you could do it:

ah yes. it automatically makes a cluster when you get material.
but what green handles are you expecting?

The texture projection... but it was there, I just didn't see it.

Thanks for the tutorial link... my DVD is out so I can't access my DVD tutorial...

I know this should be simple... I just get frustrated as heck after I've been away from the program for a few weeks...

Ok...I got it to work, except for one problem.

When I add the texture to the last face, it apparently doesn't show up...I only see a "reflection" of the image on the opposite face. The texture is a box with the letters UA in it. On the last face, the letters are reversed -- an apparent reflection. When I move the texture projections for the texture I applied to this last face, nothing happens...the reverse image remains.

I attached a screen grab...

OK... I got it to work. Started over.

Now that I know how to do this, it takes about five to ten minutes.

Thanks for the help!!!
