Hi -

If you have recently won or received a complimentary Academic license at a recent Softimage Education Event or a Softimage Student User Event, here are the steps on how to activate your new license:

You would have received an activation card with a code on it. The registration code card will allow you to download your software and activate your license.

On the back:

1 – Visit www.softimage.com/downloads/XSI_student_teacher/default.aspx, and download XSI Advanced for Students/Teachers (the 32-bit or 64-bit Windows version).

2- When your download is finished, install the XSI software. When the installation is complete, you’ll be prompted to enter your softimage.com login information (user name and password). If you do not have a softimage.com account, visit http://www.softimage.com/login/create.aspx to create one.

3- Enter your login information and the registration code, and then click the Activate button to download and activate your license.

For more information about activating your license, visit the Support section of the Softimage Wiki: http://softimage.wiki.avid.com/index.php/Category:Support

Enjoy your prize!!

Hi Jennifer,

About these Student License prizes.. Are they limited to one year? Also, since I already own commercial license of 6.0 ADV, could I pass my activation card onto someone else (non student/educator) to use for learning/non-commercial work?

I have a question. Now that xsi 7 is out. Can we still use the license for that we won for xsi 6? Also, do they last a year. or are they permanet?

You cannot run 7.0 with a 6.0 license.

If you have your 6.0 license, you can use the License Manager to check whether it is a one year license or a permanent license. Click Server > Query License Server, and click Run Quer.

Thanx for the quick reply. Im still a little unclear about something tho. The licenses that were given out at the contest do not say which xsi they are for. Obviously, at the time they were given(a month ago) 6.5 was the current version. So im guessing that they only work for 6.5.

Should i just contact softimage with this question.

Well, I work at Softimage.

When you query the license server, the license listing includes a version column.
For example, the following listing shows a 7.0 Trial and a 6.5 Essentials.

******** List contents of KeyDataBase ********
KeyDataBase:

...and may I ask where are the 6.5 setup files now that 7 has arrived? I see 6.02 etc and plenty of others in the previous ver section.

I didn't realize we have access to the 64bit ver also.

:)

Cheers.

The Previous Versions download will be updated shortly.
If you need the 6.5 download right now, please contact us at support@softimage.com.

An XSI license works with either 32-bit or 64-bit XSI, so if a 64-bit version of XSI is available, your license will run it.
