Reinstall your display driver.
You may also want to check whether your card is certified (http://www.softimage.com/support/xsi/graphics_cards/default.aspx), and if so, which driver version is recommended.
Here's a quick way to confirm that a crash is related to OpenGL and your display driver:
In a text editor, open the file %XSI_HOME%\Application\layouts\Default.xsily
Change this line:
<frame name="vm" type="View Manager" primary="false" toolbar="own"> </frame>
to this:
<frame name="vm" type="explorer" primary="false" toolbar="own"> </frame>
Save the file
Try to start XSI.
If XSI starts, then the problem is probably the display driver for your video card.
What you did above was change the default layout to a mazimized explorer, instead of the default four OpenGL viewports.
Don't forget to undo this change.
