Softimage behavior discontinued?
if not, where can find?

Hi Malcom

You can download Behavior from the Previous Versions section of softimage.com/downloads.


Go to softimage.com/downloads.
Under Previous Versions, click Downloads.
In the list of Products, click OLDER VERSIONS (don't click Behavior).
Download SOFTIMAGE|BEHAVIOR v.2.1.

v2.11 has a bug with saving worlds, so most people use 2.1

what do you mean bug in saving worlds? Are you saying I should not use the one that came with XSI 7?

You can't save a world in the latest Version, Behavior will crash.
BUT in 2.1 you can't render mi files, it just won't work, so you will have to use a combination of 2.1 and 2.11, 2.1 for creating worlds and 2.11 for the rest.

Behavior.... yeayea...

hmm that is a little concerning. Is this no longer an actively developed product? I mean you almost see nothing about it on the site anymore and this is is the same version from the last release no?

No this product isn't under developement anymore. You will hear from some SI guys that it is still supported, but as far as I know its not under developement anymore.

that is a shame. Seemed to be quite promising. I wonder if it is becasue they belive that it will replace by ICE. Forgive my ignorance but it does seem like ICE could do some if not all of this. Does anyone know of any other crowd software? Other than the overly expensive Massive?

No there is no crowd solution avaible except massive. There is alice but thats an inhouse tool of MPC i think.

Behavior developement wasn't stopped because of ICE (ICE came quite a bit after Behavior developement was stopped).
Hey why doesn't someone from SI comment on this one ?

Everyone knows THAT behavior developement was stopped, but knowone really knows why ?
I think because there was no market for a crowd solution. Massive has become the standart imho.

that is really a shame. It prolly lost out becasue they didn't market it at all. At least not after the initial release.

I often wonder the logic of companies soetimes when they complain that people are not using a product. When in fact no one really knows anything about it becasue it is not marketed.

I understand that these cost are high. but when you consider the cost of letting IP and the capital to create that IP going to waste. It is really not that expensive. I mean honestly Behavior and Massive are for two totally different markets. Massive I have been exposed to only once and I must say you need an army to create an army in stant software. I cannot really comment on behavior that much but from my perspective it seems like it was much more of a poor mans massive designed with a single artist or small house in mind. And lets not forget that it is much cheaper! and unless you are making Lord of the Rings that is the biggest selling point of all!
