Greetings everyone

I wanted to post up my first attempt using xsi hair. I must say, its a very fun process. :)

I do have a question however:

I'm wondering how to make the hair appear sharper in the render. As you can see, there's a lot of blurring when looking directly at it, with much nicer hair being produced at the edges.
The render is using final gather with no GI and two spot lights. AA settings are min 1 and max 3.

Cheers!

Hello, good start - try setting the hair thickness to much less than it is. You may need to increase the total amount of hair.

for 'sharper' render I'd try Min 0 & max 2 with Mitchell filter on 4 in the framebuffer tab

Thank you Rob for the suggestions - I'm taking them on-board and will post the result.

Many thanks.

Slight update - need to randomize it slightly but still keeping it going in the negative y direction.

getting better - I'd still go thinner on the hair, perhaps not so much thinner at the root, but at the tip definitely more. you need to play around with the kink and frizz to get a more realistic styling

As tekano said, it does look a little bit thick. still , fun character you have there to play with. Post work will do a big job in selling the realism of the hair. once you have some DOF and the hair is a bit thinner, the lighting and shadows are correct, it will look great.

Looks great, hehe : ) I bet that would look great with animation and dynamics.
Nice to see modo users here too, keep it up. : )
