"New global illumination technique: irradiance particles
A novel global illumination technique, Irradiance Particles (short: IP), has been
introduced. It is, in many cases, superior to final gather and/or photon mapping
in terms of image quality, usability and performance."

Any render tests with this "new" technique??? (good bye to flickering? ;)

I really hope to see that and maybe more surprises inside the next version of XSI... :)

yes these are called "importons"... i dislike how they think they have to change the terminology.

nope. importons is one thing. irradiance particles is another.
both rely to importance driven sampling maps.

eventually, have a look here.

indeed they are two features...

too bad my mental ray documentation only has an importons section... and its broken :(

when i get that fixed should i expect to see both information about importons and irradiance particles in there?
