View Full Version : Eurocopter AS-350
Hello everyone!!
First of all: sorry for my english :)
I started to work on the Eurocopter AS-350 with 3D Studio MAX in the July 2005 but I never finished it. (here some image of the old wip: 1 (http://www.treddi.com/upload/satan/images/AS-350_Detailed/As-350-B3_Pianale.jpg) 2 (http://www.treddi.com/upload/satan/images/AS-350_Detailed/As-350-B3_Pianale4.jpg) 3 (http://www.treddi.com/upload/satan/images/AS-350_Detailed/As-350-B3_Pianale5.jpg) )
Now, almost 3 years after and with XSI in my hands... I decided to re-start it!
The model will be in high detail... I've already a lot of reference for the AS-350 (but not for the Turbomeca Arriel 1D1 engine :( ) and I hope to have time enough (and skills) to build all I have in mind to do.
Here a screen with blueprint and an example of the reference I'll follow...

In these days I'll organize all the reference I have... I'll start to move the first polygon next week... maybe :)

screens from 3ds max looks nice, im looking forward to see your next wip`s! are you gonna import old model from 3ds max or remake it all from scratch?
The old model looking well in render but is not so accurate and perfect.
So, this is a good reason to remake it all in XSI

woah, good luck this. That's some serious detail, very ambitious.
What do you plan to do with the final model? Technical illustrations or stills?

Hi Eros.
Welcome to the back.
I like it.
A little Up...

Looking like a very meticulous work. Keep it up!
Leo.
Up... with a little rig.
Wire...

I'm here again, after a little stop...
On last two days, I worked a while to adjust the rig and to find a solution for the Level of Detail...
I thought to do it using the Geometry Approximation combined with the ctr_dist_cam.
The Idea is to change the G.Approx. relative to the ctr_dist_cam value for each object.
Setting the expression for each object (only now, 232) could be a little nightmare, so I tried to build a little script to automatize all the process and made me able to change all I need, everytime I want, just with some click.
I haven't experience in scripting or programming language... but I like to learn :)
But I'm satisfied for now, all seems to work well.
Here a little Capture that resume this little scripting experience :)

And here two video, made just for fun... one for the rig (a stupid rig!) and one for my LOD Test.
Main Rotor RIG - QuickTime - 7,31Mb (http://www.zoefactory.com/Loki/AS-350/ScreenCapture/MainRotor_Capture_1.mov)
LOD Test - QuickTime - 11,6Mb (http://www.zoefactory.com/Loki/AS-350/ScreenCapture/LOD_Cam_Capture_1.mov)
Looks perfect keep it up ;)
Thanks zoom
I've a little trouble now... I have the G.Approx in both OGL and Render Levels connected to an expression. It works for what I want for the LOD, but if I select an object and press + or - in the numpad nothing changes (obviously!).
So, is it possible to set an expression where if the condition is false, xsi accept the user input?
Something like that:
cond( CustomParameter.Active == 1 , CustomParameter.Distance_1 , "Accept my input bastard!!!" )
In order to concentrate all my works and posts in only one place, I choose to continue this Thread here: LINK (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=43&t=646870)

Ive found a very nice one in this site:
http://www.the3dstudio.com/product_details.aspx?id_product=47092
It seems to be a good model... but it isn't free as you asked before.
But sorry... I don't know where you could find free models of the AS 350.
