Hello Everyone.

This is something that I've been wanting to model for a while, and I think my modelling skills are now at the level to be able to pull it off (Hopefully:biggrin:). Here's where I'm at so far:

I'm planning to fully texture, rig and animate him. Then I'll be doing a little VFX sequence where I'll be comping him (and some of his buddies:wink:) into some live-action footage.

Cheers,

Paul.

I like the warhammer 40k character... the model look nice, what kind of modelling techniques you have used??? I see a series of curves on the first image.

Thanks Marco:).

For complex shapes such as this I use the spline cage modelling method, where I draw splines along the contours of the object, then fill it in with polygons using the create poly tool.

It's my favourite modelling method because, once you've created the spline cage, the modelling is really fast, and you can pretty much build the whole model in the perspective viewport just by snapping the verts to the splines.

Cheers.

Good work so far Paul. Clean modeling. I can see the spline modeling method can help to plan out the surface ready to put the polys down.Sometimes I like to use the same way when building products/cars.

Why not the surface modeling?

I've started work in 3D with Max and his nurbs surfaces are really bad, so the spline cage was very useful, but in XSI the surfaces seems great... or not?

Sorry for the late reply fellas, I've been crazy busy. Anyway, to answer your question Marco, I have nothing against using XSI's nurbs surfaces. I just prefer to use polygons. I've always had a hard time getting nurbs to do what I want them to do.

I've done a bit more on the Terminator:
