I normally like to post projects start to finish in multiple forums, so expect a lot of updates, I love feedback & critics.
Okay, new maya school assignment, more not using maya, :D
Heres a basic map of the scene. And for the story behind it; toy shark attacks rubber ducky, the assignment was to include water, the final video should be 1.5min long.

I'll add my storyboard and the few textures I have done tomorrow
My file got corrupted so I'm starting from scratch today
A video compositing test, plus modeling critics please,

I'm working on various parts of the scene right now, I'll upload parts when I get them done.

So my file got messed up, again at school, it seems the video card is jacked up, and was messing with maya, going to start working on modeling more in XSI tonight, but heres a material test, just a phong with a bump + a reflectivity map

Wide angle camera render of the room, I forgot to hide one thing.
Just an area light

Good start mate. The concept for the short sounds quite fun and entertaining, but 1.5 mins!! wow.. that's going to be a lot to fill up. What will happen during that time?
One thing to watch out for is that the problem with most student animations is timing. Big spaces of time with nothing happening, hanging too long in the same camera shots.

But you don't need to make it look like isometric... lol
Anyway, I like how the modeling is coming along. But, IMHO, I think you could change the colors of the walls. This blood-red is not commonly used in bathrooms, and can get your audience distracted. Again, this is just a suggestion, feel free to keep the color if you like it.
Keep posting!

its not going to be bam, shark attack, you gotta set the mood, maybe some dead rubber duckies :P, okay 1.5 min is stretching it, maybe 45 :P
Yeah red was just quickly picked, I might try something else (my bathroom is red :O)

I still need to work on the floor texture, a friend wanted to see it with soft shadows.

Got distracted with learning how to use passes and optimizing render times, 20 seconds per frame, or 1 min per frame with GI on my old pentium D. I need to figure out how to bake the AO, because its taking 3min per frame to get clean results.

Nice work so far,
The things that stand out are the very large rings ( who knows. could be a design choice? ) , and the shower curtain looks like its 30 cm scaled up. It doesn't look right now, as if it is hanging down and gravity is affecting it

Have a look at this for example, and look at the curves along the bottom.

well I just plan on maya n-clothing it, is there a way to export a scene with materials from xsi to maya?

It's coming along nicely, but if I can make just one suggestion, I would change the cabinet drawer arrangement and place them in the center, and the cabinet doors directly under the sinks. It would be very difficult to open and close drawers with the sink basin and plumbing in the way.

Lol, I'll fix it, I wasn't really thinking about practicality, but it makes since.

I got the liquid running well in maya (well the tubs not full just starting to fill up) and I shortened the animation because of the teachers lack of deadlines, until the week she expects it in, I think I may just render the water (and duck) in maya, rip the camera, and render it in XSI, then compile them, maybe add an extra little clip of showing off the room, never finished the toilet but thats easy enough to hide :P
