Ok guys...I've been with 4.2 for some time now...
I can tell that the pricing is changing....so....how significant is the jump between the two versions?
Also...does 6.02 support XNA?
Thanks!!!

If you're talking about 6.02 Foundation, it's still the same price $495, and yes it supports XNA.

Yes, I was talking about foundation...but...I was also wondering how much of a jump it was regarding the toolset?

From Foundation 4 to 6 it's a fairly big jump. Here are the new features just in Foundation 6
http://www.softimage.com/products/foundation/whats_new.aspx
I'm not sure if these pertain to you.
If you're thinking of doing anything with XNA or CryENGINE, you're going to need XSI 6+ because of Crosswalk, which enables these exporters.

XSI 6+?
Are you meaning 6.5?....
Leonard

6+ as in anything that is 6.0 and above including 6.01, 6.02, 6.5.

Cool...
I'm pretty excited with everything that's been going on lately. So...I'm making the upgrades!

Very cool! You're getting a ridiculously high amount of 3D firepower for a very cheap price....

Hi there, i too went from 4.2 to 6 foundation last year and it is a fairly big jump especially with the upgrade to mental ray and the new render manager. But i think it is well worth it ive found 6.02 to be relatively rock solid and very good to work with. And the new features are worth the upgrade money.
But possibly a controversial statement but if i was you i would possibly hold off if you can wait as i'm sure V7 will be here sometime this year (only gossip really LOL) but if you look at the timings between releases were in the frame this year. :cowboy:

I too feel as if 7 would be coming soon...I just don't feel that the foundation price would remain...
I was talking to tech support today and he hinted that I should consider the price changes already made as sign for the future...I think the $495 tag is about to disappear!

Hi, I have some questions I have in mind for some time now.
Are there upgrade prices for updates from older XI-versions to 6/7 ADV/ESS?
For example I own a 5.11 ESS and have no maintenance on it,
do I have to purchase a new ESS, fullpriced when I want to
upgrade to XSI 7 ESS?
And is there a possibility to enter maintenance
again after a maintenance-pause?
Thank you for any hints,
Daniel

I think that would be a question for your reseller. I can get someone from sales to answer on the forum, but really, you're better off calling your reseller or representative.
Best,

welcome on board daniel :)
from ess upwards there is definately a update price, not a full version. call Mario Prang, he will make you a good price.

I personally can't wait till the 7.0 release.
I have 6.5 ESS and its awesome.
I had asked at one time what the cost would be to go from foundation to Essentials and I was told by the sales guy at the time that it would be the cost difference. Meaning the price minus what I already payed plus shipping depending on where I lived.
XSI for me is the least expensive tool.

That would not be smart IMHO .... but ok..., I'm not waiting for 7... I'm buing foundation in about 25 days hehe.... when the trial expires  .
If 7 comes out soon after and I'm not entitled to upgrade .... I'm killing someone...:taz:
But looking at:
5.0 ---- 08/2005
6.0 ---- 11/2006
6.5 ---- 08/2007
And 7 being suposely a major step, I believe only around sigraph will we se someting new..

It wouldn't be smart...but...it seems fairly obvious that there switching up the pricing...
no foundation for 6.5?
I believe we've seen the last of the Foundation package....Seems like Softimage accomplished there marketing scheme to me...and now it's back to jacking up the price tag.

it seems fairly obvious that there switching up the pricing...Nope... they repackaged-it, it's actualy cheaper now to have hair/fur, syflex etc... Don't see why it would afect foundation thought...
Edit: And Advanced actualy droped price ;)

Sounds cool...but when I hear a tech from Softimage hint at Foundation coming to an end...I tend to lean in that direction.

I don't like Hint's... and these rumours don't do any good to softimage since I don't think there can be any oficial clarification... so this person was not being very professional imho... and... a tech guy has access to this kind of information ? weird ...

True...but...the fact that XSI Foundation is not available...tells me something...will it come back for 7...would be great...!

foundation IS AVAILABLE on the softimage store http://store.softimage.com/store/products/welcome/default_presentation.asp?URL=XSI_Foundation_All.as p.... no 6.5 because the changes from 6.02 were not enought to justify a paid upgrade, i guess

tells me something...
Pixel imagination - it tells you nothing! I Can't believe I read more into your previous post than there was.
6.02 and 6.5 - makes no difference. It's not some cryptic HINT about Foundation! Let it lie.

Well Steve Blair said over at XSI Base that there would be a Foundation 7 when I asked about Foundations future.

So hope that lets you sleep easier at night now.

lol. I see you've been waiting all this time to get back with that one!! :P
Actually, with the upgrade offer as it is, I'm happy I upgraded to foundation 6 way back at the end of 2006 and I'm not loosing any sleep over its demise. I am loosing, perhaps, a little sleep at the thought of owning Essentials which, just over a year and half ago was really XSI Advanced.

Notice how this thread will not get the amount of replies prior till my last post...;)
I love it...truth is common sense would have told you that Foundation was going to the trash can...it had already been removed. ;)
When you couple that with my source...well...you know how the rest goes...lol
I never make a statement that is not valid :)
