View Full Version : XSI 7 - Any updates/announcements from the conferences?
Hi all,
This year i was not able to go to the conferences, usually there is always some "leaked" info, about the next releases. So i was wondering if this year there is any news on the XSI 7 front.
Thanks.

All I've basically been hearing is; it has some new shiny particle/simulation engine thats amazingly fast, and it going to be at the heart of XSI, so everything should get a performance boost.

Yes, there was lots of info. No, those of us who were there can't talk about it. If I do, I may go "missing" and that's a risk I'm not willing to take
Don't worry, use XSI 6.5 for now, it's awesome.

This is not good for those interested in hearing about new developments.
If you can't talk about it then don't post that fact.
I see posts like this a lot and its like rude or just annoying.
I figure you or whoever signed an NDA but thats just not what is being asked.
I hope the next post will give us any releasable insight rather than telling people that it cannot be talked about.

I find it strange it strange that topics discussed in a conference is hush hush?
I mean...it was a conference?

I think its great that Softimage share their new ideas with power users. After all, it must surely lead to a better end product. However, I do hope that they say something offical soon. Rumors of XSI 7/Moondust have been going around for ages and if they are not careful they are going to start annoying grass-roots users.
Eventually heightend anticipation (generated from conference feedback) could turn into frustration and annoyance!

Alan

FYI, in a recent article Mark Schoennagel was quoted in saying the Moondust will be in the next release of XSI. This is good news and hopefully will bring some rumors to rest. At least we know it's coming.

My apologies Steve, the last thing I was trying to do was offend anyone. Believe me, a lot of people would love to show you (and every XSI artist) the new "moondust" system but we can't; believe it or not if someone leaked vital info like this, it could really hurt Softimage and no one wants that. I wouldn't worry however, time flies so fast that before you realize it, we will be on XSI 8.5. Again, sorry for my earlier post and for not being able to share more about new Softimage software. Now if you'll excuse me, there's some people in black suits and glasses following me; let me go see what they want.

Who is to say that Steven hasn't already seen Moondust in action? If I remember correctly he was already shooting people down on the XSI List DIRECTLY after the Siggraph user group. Quite comical seeing Steven pulling out his iPhone and checking the list immediately.
Steven is just trying to keep the speculation and hype under control. I agree that it shouldn't go into speculation. That could lead to crazy ideas about what the new features are and when the inaccurate speculations don't hold up when the new XSI is released, no one will be in a hissy fit.
Just a few thoughts.

I hope your not talking about me... I was never in the loop about anything they do. I just recently took advantage and spent $2000 on ESS. I love the price and how XSI works compared to other 3d packages. My post was to just point out that when a person asks about something new that to tell them that men in suits are after you is rather like dangling a piece of candy just out of reach from a child.... Most people don't want to hear that sort of thing. The post could have just been simply Sorry but its under NDA and no one who knows can talk about it. I like direct and to the point posts. Make things clear. I have signed NDA's before and I have never broken those. So if anyone is under an NDA contract then just saying nothing would be the simplest thing to do and no one will ever feel your holding that candy just out of reach...
If I knew anything about what AVID is doing and signed any contract I would not even mention that I knew anything in the first place.
As it is I know nothing and I have not signed any contract.
If history repeats then it Moondust or what ever the next enhancement is, will be awsome. Just look at GATOR. Its one of XSI's strongest tools.
Anyway I didn't mean to come down hard on anyone or upset those here. I just like to see good info when its released. I missed GDC due to work and I got very ill. I would have liked to go see the new stuff and would have gladly signed that NDA just to see it. :)
There have been articles on the subject of a new particle system that will out do the current one. This is all I know from stuff leaked out on the blogs and other net postings. All I need to know is if it was real and is it that good. I don't need to know the full details. I will get that when it if true is released.

Sorry about the misunderstanding of who you were Steven C. I thought you were Steven Caron. Damn all these new forums! That will teach me to look at the poster's real name.
Anywho, I'm right on board with you there. If you can't say anything then don't. Even mentioning that you can't mention stuff is rather bait-like.

@Zac-Donald
well you missed the point... TF2 took many years more than most games do and it is a very good game. i was trying to draw a parallel that showed what taking your time developing and testing can do for you.
