Great work so far, I love the art style. I can almost picture the characters that would be involved :)

looks great, how did you make the ropes? is there an easy/fast way? :D

Thanks all,

well, a real fast rope creation really not. The bad part is the creation of the curve that I used as deformer. Then the rope model itself is just en extrusion along axis with a twist deformer applied. Then use Deform by Curve and that's it.
I found also 2 scripts which let the rope modeling step simple but you still need a curve to apply to.

What really impresses me is the wires, very clean (@ XSIBase), I've been following this closely and can't wait to see how it turns out.

Hi all,

thanks: I'm pleased that you like this idea and model. At the moment I'm little busy with a short I'm working on so I can't follow fast as I would like: please be patient

@Dravenfr: Thanks. Yes, the concept is mine (the sketch too).

Here's a script for creating ropes from a curve:

Thanks Reini,

that script is exactly one of those two I've found on the net. It works quite well. The only thing I've noticed is that, when you've created a rope, it creates a Custom Property (from now on "CP") that will affect also others future ropes. This probably because the script points always to the same CP name while the next CP created change the name by adding 1, 2, 3, etc.
The only solution I got was to delete the CP and then create a news rope with a new CP :)

Cheers.

Yes, I remember vaguely.. You had to freeze the created rope (or delete the CP which has the same effect)...
As someone asked for an easy way to create a rope, I thought, this link should be posted here..

I completely agree with you: this is the right place to post that link. Thank you very much :).

See you.

I have a problem with composition, but overall model style looks great. No faking - pure high detailed models, I like that.

Looking forward to see some progress soon.

Hi David,

thanks. What's the problem about composition? I'm still working on the overall scene and your opinion would be valuable :).

Cheers.

Keep up the good work.

Hi everybody,

I started working on the Island. The initial idea of creating a jewel as the base of the island has been changed. I tried different "ring-type" but no one satisfied me. So I decided to change and create a real ground peace above which I'll put the island itself. Here is the rough/base model:

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k145/capt_eatbones/wire_isola.jpg

And here is the island into the chest:

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k145/capt_eatbones/treasure.jpg

I'll work probably with sculpting too, in order to create more "random" details and, why not, vegetation.
Any suggestion wuold be appreciated ;). Bye.

Here is my opinion about composition. I would go for classic central composition. Try wider angle for camera. I think put the main object to right down corner would work well in horizontal image not in vertical.

I made some quick example how it could be done.
I made same distortion to image so perspective is not correct.

Hi guys,

I started as you've seen to work on the island. At the moment I'm wondering how to realize the "Compass" part of the "Treasure". The idea is create a sort of ancient ruins on top of which there are old-metal letters indicating "North, South, East, West". Here is the sketch:

http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k145/capt_eatbones/screen-66.jpg

@DAVID:-D: Thanks for the suggestion :). I've choosen this composition, the chest in an asymmetrical position, considering two aspects:

- I prefer something asymmetrical in general, even though I know it works better on orizontal images, cause it gives me more dinamic result.
- In this case, the composition is thought together with the lighting that is not what you see at the moment. The scene will be darker with a little light coming from the top-left corner, coming in from the outside, and the main one in the chest: the island, as the treasure, will be the main light source; all this is to focus the interest on the chest.

I've no idea yet if it will work fine as I would. In case it wouldn't I probably would change the composition to a more central one. :)

Cheers

thanks a lot for your comments. A t the moment I'm closing an animation project so I really don't have much time to work on the island :(. In April I'll post something new ;).

Hello,

it seems not but I'm still working on this illustration :D. I started working on the lighting of the scene. Here is a shot:

There's no FG, GI or AO. I'll surely use AO but I'm not sure to I'll use FG and GI. Let's see the render time :D.
