View Full Version : Randomize direction not working

I've watched some of the ICE videos on Vimeo, and one thing I noticed was that "Randomize Value by Range" plugged into the Direction port of my emitter, does not give me spread on my particle simulations.
Is there something that I am missing?
did you switched "select emit direction" to "use initial direction vector"

consider using randomize vector by cone/angle if you want the effect of a spread.

thanks guys, I found another way of doing it...the obvious way actually. It works very well to just plug a "randomize value by range" straight into an "add forces" node.
The problem when switching to "use internal dir vectors" is that you can't animate the rotation of the emitter object...the particles always points to the given direction.
man...this is sooo much fun.
Now, if only I can get the new volume shaders to render faster, I will be a very happy man.

Mind posting an image of your tree for me? Just want to see how you're doing things.

Sure...here is a quick example. "Turbulize around Value" gives nice results as well when plugged straight into the forces node.
Anyway, it's not a biggy...I just could not get spread to work when plugged into the direction input of the emitter.
