Cassidy Curtis - engraving shader?

A friend just sent me a link to this site:

He's looking for me to reproduce this look. It seems that Cassidy wrote a custom SI3D shader back in 1991 to create the look of an engraving.

Has anyone seen this shader or anything similar? I thought Kim Aldis had created some non-photorealistic stuff, but I can't recall if there was a engraving shader.

i make this now, you can change this simply shader in many ways :)
