Hi,
I've got XSI Fnd 5.11, and the recent upgrade offer for XSI7 seemed so interesting I wanted to look closer at XSI6.5 Essentials trial... mostly to try and play with the pieces which are missing in Fnd (hair/cloth) and see if the implementation is userfriendly.
So downloaded the 30 day trial, install it, then it automatically tries to get a trial license but this fails.
I have looked through the available wiki's etc but don't see this particular error mentioned. OS is Windows XP SP3 (32-bit).
Here is an image summarizing the error I get:

Anyone seen this particular error?

It can happen for a variety of reasons.
Contact support and they will correct the problem for you.

Hmm, ok no quick solutions then... it's a straight install, so it really shouldn't be "for a variety of reasons". Internet connection good, admin permissions good etc..
Must say the announced "Panic button" in XSI7 seems like a very, very good idea... long overdue...

Did you try again later?
The xml error indicates a problem with the data being passed over the Internet, so it may have been an intermittent problem. If there is a real problem, it is probably with a web service running on our side.
If you still have problems getting a trial license, send a request code to support at softimage dot com:
Start the License Manager (click Start > All Programs > Softimage Products > License Manager).
Click Manage Key Database.
Click Rename Key Database.
Click Generate Request Code.

Yes, tried several times.
Will shoot off a mail to soft support I think.
Internet line shoud be good on my part and download of the 400 MB trial is without problems.
Can't rename the key database, since the initial trial key download doesn't work.
Windows event log have a couple of interesting events:
_________________
Event Type: Error
Event Source: SPM_syslog
Event Category: syslog(ERROR)
Event ID: 4100
...
Description:
SPM_ERROR (C:\spm\spmdib.exe): Can't get display name for service: "SPM License Server" (The specified service does not exist as an installed service.)
followed by
Event Type: Warning
Event Source: SPM_syslog
Event Category: syslog(WARNING)
Event ID: 4101
...
Description:
SPM_WARNING (C:\spm\spmdib.exe): The service "SPM License Server" is probably not correctly installed (check registry entries).

Looking in registry however the "spmd" service exists with the above display name, so a bit strange...
Anyway will check with Soft support.

Sorry, I should of deleted the Rename Key Database line.
You can safely ignore those errors in the Windows Event Log, they are always there.

Well, generating a key request > Soft support > key back via mail > and install it in LicMgr worked
Btw: I also tried to install trial at a laptop I took to work this morning - same problem with getting licenses via internet (so different machine, network, etc).
Anyway quick service - recommended.
