I like the layout of the room and the overall colours bit the lighting needs some work. It needs more depth to the shadows and GI. Also the material in the table looks like it needs to be UV mapped as its stretching.

Interior rendering is one of the things i have found the most challenging with mentalray as everyroom is a different set up.

thanks, good tip on the table, i didn't notice that at first. i am still trying to find a good shader for the fridge and doing the back kitching.

as far as the lighting goes, i am not sure just how much more i can tweak it. since this picture here is the original photo.

as you can see... that's pretty much lit flat. and i had to pretty much guess on the source of the lighting.

If you look under the chairs you will see a lot darker shadows than your render. I think if you make your main light brighter at the window you will get better shadows you can use fall off to control the brightness towards the back of the room. Also add an ambient occlusion pass it will make all the difference!.
