I am happy to annouce the release of our long awaited Technical Director Training series for Softimage XSI 7.

The series consists of two (download format) DVDs, focusing on 3D Math, Vectors, Transforms, Arrays, Scripted Easing and Springing, among lots of other topics. It's intended to help people who shy away from Math concepts to have a better, solid grasp of them, and apply them to computer graphics and kinematics.

The language used is Jscript.

More info and demos can be found here: http://www.3dquakers.com (http://www.3dquakers.com/)

Looks awesome Charbel,

Question, will the tutorial also go through creating the custom PPG as well?

Thanks,
Eric T.

I don't think the idea is to sell a tool, it's more like "how to do the tool".

BTW The DVD looks awesome Charbel, I should get it too. ;)

Exactly!

The DVDs aim at teaching the thought process required to create new contraints in XSI.
A lot more is covered than just the creation of the plugin.
The series will focus on the transition from scripts, to scripted operators to plugins, and elaborate where each is needed.

You right, anyway his tool has more functions and I believe he will go with more tools and tips what has not been used for Demo.

...........right?

The DVD looks great Charbel.

I was wondering, which scripting language do you use to create the plugin? (Please let it be python:)).

Cheers.

The scripting language is Jscript, Paul.

I did write the plugin in Python for speed comparison, but I found that the execution of the Jscript version was faster.
I ended up writing the plugin in C++, and I will bundle the C++ version with the DVD, but the instruction language will be Jscript.

If you do know some Python though, it's trivial to translate the plugins covered in the DVD to Python. The programming logic would be exactly the same. You just need to take care of the syntax.

Pardon my impatientness, but is there still no news on the release date? It's just that looks like something I was searching for, for quite a while and I'm soooo excited about it.

Hi Darco,

The first 2 DVDs in the series are completed. I am just finishing up the production side of things.
One of the aims of the TD training series is to answer some of the questions people are posing regarding 3D Math theory, vectors, transformations, arrays ...etc
In my opinion, it's the perfect introduction to ICE, even though ICE is not covered in the first 2 DVDs.
Once out the door (hopefully within the month), subsequent DVDs will cover 3DQUAKERS rigging techniques in ICE, among other ICE topics.

So won't be long now, and hopefully it will be worth the wait.

This is great news!

I was just wondering, Is it really necessary to have XSI 7, or is it possible to follow the DVDs without any further scene files needed coming with the DVDs. And for that matter, is everything possible with a 6.x version of XSI (so no ICE stuff included)?

Yes you can follow along with XSI 6.x Draco.
I can also provide you with Scene files and Addon for v6 if needed.

This is perfect timing for me. ICE has made me aware of how bad my math skills are and I'm hoping this will fix me up!
