Hi,
I am beginner in XSI after watching few video tutorials decided than I am ready to do some modelling by myself. So I did.
I decided to start my first architectural visualisation by drawing a floor plan using Linear Curves to use them later as base for extrusion command. But it did not worked very well, let’s start from beginning.
I have decided to use Softimage unit as 10 centimetres. First wall that I wanted to draw was 258 cm log and 49 thick. After a few tries I found that it is impossible for me to draw it straight away so I decided draw 1 Softimage unit curve as 10 cm, and then select second point of this curve and move in Transform Box to 25,8. Ok, it is not the best possible way of drawing but I can live with that. But then it came to thickness and I just could not get how to do that… I wanted to Extrude last point 1 Softimage unit and then multiply by 4,9 as for 49 centimetres… but Extrusion does not work on curve points. Then I tried to draw a separate curve and do what I did to the first one. Great, worked fine, I got 4,9 Softimage unit long curve, but I just cannot move it to the place where the first curve ends… when I am selecting the second one the first is simply disappearing from the view…
So frustrating… I cannot just continue to draw by just adding next and next points to the curves, because I just do not know how to maintain right angles when the length of last one is something like 25,8 (between grid lines) and end of first curve does not lie on the grid so I just cannot snap to it…
I really want to stick to Linear Curves because that will be same work as I will do in “real” work with imported AutoCad files that I would be given in my professional work.
Well for me in Lightwave is just a tick job, I want to do some modelling in XSI to learn another application and use Softimage History Stack and 3D Connector, but I am finding drawing real live things in Softimage extremely un-user friendly… but I am not sure yet if it is my lack of skills or just editable Stack and possibility to use 3D manipulator is price for so frustrating drawing system when you decide to draw precisely real live objects.
Cheers
