What's the process for applying a cylindrical texture projection to a cylinder AFTER it has already been extruded along a curve to form a hose or snake shape?

well, if you have modeling history still active, you should move curve deform to the shape modeling section, deactivate it, then apply mapping on undeformed object and then activate curve deform again. that should work.

I'll remember that for next time. But what if you don't have history available?

Select an edge range running all the way down the length of the cylinder then send it to RoadKill. :D

use Contour Sketch UVs projection
its made for this kind of mapping
look for it in docs

How do you use Contour stretch on a cylindrical shape? All the examples in the docs refer to a flat shape like a strip of road that has four corners.

If it is just a cylinder that hasn't changed in geometry (ie you haven't added extra points, polys etc.). Then this will work.

Just create a new cylinder, that has exactly the same amount of polys in the U direction as well as V. Apply a cylinder projection, to this object, open up the texture editor (alt+7), select all UVs (ctrl+a), copy them (ctrl +c). Select the hose, update the TE (you must have a projection, any will do). Select all the UVs, then ctrl+v, and that will paste the projection from the cylinder to the hose. The TE probably won't update straight away, just try zooming out or something.

theres a few ways, but I find the easiest way to do it is to disconnect an edge and open up the corners (to make em easier to select) then walk along mesh and pick the corners. Finally I delete the move points (the ones used to open up the corners) from the operator stack and well selected edged together to seal it back up.
