View Full Version : lattice deformer and secondary shape mode

I'm always having trouble creating corrective shapes for Lattice deformations.

When I apply a shape, I get the lattice deformation included in the shape. But when I mute the lattice deformer, I don't get the shape I need.

I tried moving the lattice deformer on top of the secondary shape tweaks and activating "mute deforms on instantiation" and other workarounds with no result.

Does this mean that it is not possible to use secondary shape mode to create corrective shapes for lattice deformers? Now that would be a real bummer.
Or is there a secret solution someone would like to share with me...

Thanks

I don't know if I understand your problem but you can put a lattice deform on top of your envelope, and obviously constraint it to some bones so it is carried together with the object.
Then you make deform keys on the lattice if you want.

I might be misunderstanding your problem... wild guess but in order to save your deformations of the secundary shape, you need to save deform keys.
Well you don't need to do that way but it's easier/faster if you do deform keys.

Thanks for your reply Thiago.

I am sorry. maybe I did not explain it very well.

what I'm trying to do is create corrective shapes for the geometry of a rigged character, and the character is deformed by bones and a lattice deformer.

to be more specific, the character is a female with a skirt. Most of the character is deformed by bones, but the upper body and the skirt is deformed by a lattice deformer.

I have created some corrective shapes for the knees, and that worked perfectly because they are deformed by bones. But now I also need to create some corrective shapes for the skirt, and that is where it no longer works because a lattice is deforming the skirt.

Like you say, it would be no problem to create corrective shapes for the lattice, but that is not what I'm trying to do.

I just tried it again on some simple geometry and I noticed this message I've not seen before: "Shape could have not stored the correct values because some animation operators are not invertible. ' Currently only envelope operators are invertible"

So I suppose that's the answer to my question.....it's not possible.

bummer.

you can only apply corrective shapes in the secondary shape mode to envelopes... it is intended to correct the deformation of the envelope by adding the tweak as an shape.
are you trying to create the secondary on the geometry or the lattice? either way you could try to envelope the object to a single bone on the rig to make this doable... just a thought.
