hi, i'm pretty much a noob period not just to xsi. i got introduced to the ap thru the uplift universe challenge and really like it even if i can't do much yet. for the challenge i modeled a sail for my image that i'm doing in bryce because that's all i can do it in at this point. anyway, pictures say a thousand words so i'll let them speak.

i saved this as an .obj

regardless of changing the material in bryce i end up with this

i think i just figured out the problem? could it be just shadows from the wind generator that i didn't hide? that's all i can think of anyway. sorry if this all sounds weird, i'm sorta lost right now.

[edit]

nope, that wasn't it. still lost and looking for ideas.

It could be a few things and without more info it's hard to nail it but I would check your clusters.

ok, basically all i did was cut a grid diagonally, turn it into cloth, tack the points along the diagonal edge and the the one corner, and apply the wind. outside of scaling and a little stretching i can't think of anything else i did. like i said i'm pretty much a noob and the only modeling i ever did before was with hexagaon, so i wasn't trying to do anything fancy. here's a shot of the mesh.

and the expanded tree

did a little experimenting and the problem seems to be in the cloth op. if i delete that then it renders fine in bryce. only it doesn't have any shape then. any ideas on how i can still use this outside of changing the material to black or am i just stuck?

more experimenting and it seams the problem was in bryce, although i have no idea what it is. it loaded and rendered fine in the 2 other programs i have, poser and daz studio. i don't know what poser changed in it, but after exporting the same .obj from it solved the problem. some day i'll learn how to do all the work in xsi and not have to jump back and forth between programs. :-)
