Rectangle selection tool is black when selecting???

I started using the XSI Mod Tool recently, and noticed that i get weird viewport glitches from time to time. When i use the rectangle selection tool for example, instead of a solid blue border and transparent fill area, i get a solid black rectangle. Also, when i resize the rectangle, while still holding onto the left mouse button, i get weird jagged edges that show up. I've heard of there being issues with Nvidia cards and XSI but, wasn't too sure if this fell into the same category. I use to have similiar symtoms in the viewport while using Carrara 3 on an Nvidia card and found out that there was an issue there also. Any ideas guys???

Hi, im getting pretty much the same issue as you, plus the loop selection and the like seem to be changed around. I select a edge to and then hold alt middle click to loop select it doesnt work, i have to crtrl left click to loop now, and to range its alt left click. Also deselect is middle click. Plus when i try to deselect all the edges, by dragging an releasing the retangle select tool it makes the black boxs like you said and they stay there unless i hit the space bar, and nothing deselects. My specs are, and it only seems to have started recently out of the blue, i tried a clean install and nothing the same issue.

PS also it seems my dx import and export library dlls are gone to

vista ultimate 64bit
ati radeon x3870 with latest drivers

Mod tool is currently not supported on Vista but this workaround might help.

Add the following to your %XSI_HOME%\Application\bin\setenv.bat file:
set USE_OPENGL_TRACKER=1

A couple of useful tips would be to make sure you are not using antialiasing with your video card, and for Vista, make sure to turn off the Aero mode as this presents problems when working with most 3d programs.

Thanks i turned areo off and it fixed the black spuare issue with the retangle selection. As for the different way of selecting issue i had, its still there i guess ill just have to get used to it, and i still cant drag and release in the viewport ot deselect componets, it seems i have to middle click them to deselect. As for the dx import export dll librarys missing, ive tried a fresh install and it still says there gone, even updated my video card drivers still didnt fix it. Thanks for the help guys.

On the Select menu, make sure that both Softimage|3D Selection Model and Extended Component Selection are turned off.

Thanks the fixed my selection issues:) Now to fix the dx import export issue, so far it doesnt seem to be affecting anything.

I'm having similiar issues, I played around with vista without it being activated (borrowed the disc from my neighbor), just throwing all my programs at it to see if i would like it. I added the opengl tracker to my setenv file for xsi, and it worked great, really smooth selection rectangle with aero turned on. So I bought vista home premium and did a fresh reinstall, now the opengl tracker fix doesn't work, the selection rectangle still gives me the grey box ?! Its been driving me nuts, because I had it working before. So after trying a million things I got to where I was rolling back video card drivers (8800gts 512) because I remembered that forceware 175 had just come out and maybe the driver was the issue. Well rolling back to 169 didn't help, but I noticed that when my pc was just running off of the windows stock drivers the selection box was working correctly again (with aero on and the opengl tracker fix), until I installed the video driver, which would break the selection box. Before when I was trying vista out I really don't remember if I ever had installed the video drivers, I'm pretty sure I did because I was playing crysis too. Anyone else have this issue?
