View Full Version : Normal Maps and Ultimapper

Hi there,

i´m fiddling around with the normal maps in XSI and ran across several problems:

1. I´ve heard, that the Normal Maps created via Normal Mapper need to be inverted in the green channel to achieve the wanted results in a 3D Engine. One Source of this fact was the Valve Developer Board. Is that correct?

2. If this is so, then why?

3. If this is correct, than in which format does XSI expect the normal maps to be? With the "wrong" green channel or the right? Is there a way to change the expectation?

i think it's an open gl vs direct x thing that green channel.

valve uses direct x
xsi uses openGL

i've had no issues with leadwerks engine.
