Hello!
I`m planning to buy xsi foundation during my visit in USA and I wonder if there are any restrictions of international use of this software. Will it be legal to buy it in US and then use it in Europe - Poland ( also for comercial use ) ? what about future upgrades?

Thank`s for help! :)
...and sorry for my bad english...

OK, I guess it`s not a simple question becouse even people from softimage don`t know:)
Here is the anwser they gave me:

// Steve
// Team Lead, Customer Support
// Softimage XSI
//
// See the XSI wiki for KB articles, FAQs, and more...
// http://softimage.wiki.avid.com/index.php/Category:Support

....thank`s for nothing! I can`t find anything there... ( maybe if something is not clearly forbidden, it`s allowed? )

Can someone tell me where to look for a full license text of xsi foundation ?

Thank you!! :)

Hi z-a-e-m-i,

Will it be legal to use. The short answer is yes; you are the owner of the software. This fact is true regardless of where you purchase the software and ultimately reside.

Is it legal to purchase software in another country with the explicit intent of importing it back to you home county. That all depends on your tax and importation laws. Just as when you go on vacation and have to pay duties and taxes on gifts, alcohol and other items you bring back. The same may be true for computer software. If you avoid paying any necessary taxes, you could possibly face penalties when you return when you are processed at the boarder. You should check your local importation laws before you get a nasty surprise.

Future upgrades:
If you were buying a Essential or Advanced license I would speculate that your reseller might be unable to provide you support if you are in another county, as resellers have territory boundaries that they do not operate out of.

For Foundation specifically, maintenance and upgrades are easy. There are none. Foundation is a one time purchase that does not entitle the user to any upgrades. New foundation versions require a new purchase. That said, depending on the situation we have at times made service packs available to all customers including foundation.

Hope that answered your question,

-matt

Here is my answer in full. I included the Softimage Store team, and their email address.
My concern would be about future upgrades, as pre what Mr mi echo wrote.

Hi Softimage Store Team

Can Jacek buy Foundation while he is in the USA ?
Does it matter where his billing address is?

And will this affect any upgrades?

Thanks

Thank you for your help!
It seems that after adding tax ( in Poland 22% ) it`s not a big differene any more :/

I guess it`s not worth the trouble...

THANK`S !!:)
