i'm having an issue with XSi failing just as the editor opens, i have the sneaking suspicion it's the dirvers but with a 9800 i'm not exactly given alot of working options in that regard.
any thoughts or advice to get me working again? there's a bit of an unofficial race to get some art displayed in the leadwerks2 beta. i'm already losing because my last pc melted on monday

Which editor? Or do you mean the four OpenGL viewports ?
Try reinstalling your display driver (same version, just reinstall it).

yeah sorry in my opinion xsi itself is an editor, it fails right on creation of those windows it seems because trying to open an existing scene will work up until that point.
would re-installing the drivers actually help, this is a new pc. 174.74 are the only nvidia drivers the pc has ever seen. i can give it a shot.

Yes, it might help, and it has helped in the past with other customers.
Sometimes things just need to be reset.
Also, try running runonce.bat and renaming your User folder.
See my post Troubleshooting Basics (http://community.softimage.com/blog.php?b=8) for help.
