The point of this thread is mainly to hear what Softimage's developers think about the future, and (if it's not to much of a secret) what is being done to have a product that can perform it's best. Is Vista really the road that will give us high speed and performance!?
I was one of those wanting to see Houdini for Mac, and now it's maybe a reality soon.
Hoping for feedback.
Cheers

There is no plan currently to port XSI to Mac. It would be nice, but we need to focus on being the best we can be on our current platforms.
Softimage will continue to develop both on Windows 32-bit and Windows 64-bit for a long while. We continue to support Windows XP and will have excellent support for Vista in our next major release.
We will also be adding 64-bit Linux to our existing 32-bit Linux platform at that time. Which versions of Linux will be certified is to be confirmed later. We believe the future is 64-bit on both platforms, but obviously we will continue to have a 32-bit version as well as long as the market requires it and it makes sense, which means the total of platforms for XSI will be four.
For 64-bit Windows, our focus is Vista 64-bit, as I've discussed in a blog entry, but we're not going to do anything to explicitly break XP64. However, it might be difficult for us in the future to get fixes for video card drivers for this older operating system, if we require them, as everyone's focus is Vista.
Can't say more.
thnx for the headup luceric.

Luceric, your statement concering xsi for linux64 is (imho) quite a bang since loads of people have anticipated this
I'd put it in fat red flashing letters onto the softimage.com website.

I really don't like Windows overall but out of win XP x64 and Vista x64, Vista wins! because of better management under heavy load, at least on my system.

tried to find information about it but nothing..
so the thing is: I'm getting a new computer and putting the damn vista on it..
Which version should I go for?
Ultimate? Home Premium?
The price is not so different... is it going to make a difference in speed or anything?

nope, just different features (google it)
I just got ultimate off of newegg for $130
Hope that you will support Linux better in version 7. Make it easy to install and setup.
