Hello,

I need some expert advice on saving in XSI. I'm completely new to this and I don't know what I'm doing. There are two things that seem odd when saving in XSI:

1) XSI doesn't seem to want to let me save in my own customized folder. It insists on a location at c:\softimage\XSI_6.02\Data\XSI_SAMPLES\... which is fine, but I like having the flexibility of saving my work in my own folder elsewhere on my computer. Can this be done?

2) When I save a scene and then re-open it at a later time, certain objects which I've moved to specific locations get reverted back to the origin. Any idea why that would be?

Thanks for the help.

Hi Gibby,

When loading and saving scenes in XSI, its best if you use the Project manager (File > Project Manager).
In the project manager, you can add new projects. Projects are a collection of folders created by XSI to easely organise your projects (scenes). You can save your new project anywhere you want.

When you make a new project, XSI automaticly creates several folders in your project folder (like Audio, Scenes, Pictures, Scripts etc). When using this aproach, XSI automaticly stores everything in its apropriate folder while working on your project. That way it is easy to keep track of your stuff.

If you have aditional textures for instance, when you place them in the pictures folder inside your project, you can easely select them when adding a texture couse XSI defaults to the picture folder in your project for textures.

I hope I made it a bit clear, once you start using it you'll see how handy the project manager is.
