Is it just me or XSI seems to be a pain when trying to model surface objects from reference, especially cars, Something is up if you ask me.......

nope. xsi mesh modeling tools are generally considered pretty good.

I guess it must be you ;-)

By surface objects you mean nurbs, I suppose.
The toolset is not bad, but when you do complex models like cars you may reach it's limits quickly.

Shame there's no extensive solid modelling addon available for XSI (like powerNURBS for, excuse me, 3dsmax).
Best,
Gene

C'mon Kim, I am being objective here, for organic objects XSI subdivision tools are a dream to use but for cars for example something does not quite gel. I have done extensive research over the last couple of months and very few XSI artists have it locked down when doing precision modeling in XSI. I constantly getting surprised after pressing the plus key. If anyone has any theories or solutions please share.....

I have been a Max user since version 1 and I recently transitioned to XSI and loving it, so I would like to think I know what I am talking about. A new broom sweeps cleaner you know..

if you're getting surprises when pressing the pluskey using another app is not going to help, they all subdivide pretty much exactly the same way.

as for good carmodels made in xsi, check this one out: http://www.sektor-41.com/forum/showthread.php?t=191

Oh yes! Awesome stuff, definitely one the best XSI model and renders out there. I'm inspired!

Nah, kinda like saying Felipe Massa is a better driver than Fernando Alonso....sometimes the equipment does matter....
