Cant enter numbers in translation

Title say's it all realy i type the number in the required feild (e.g. translate x axis) then press enter and nothing happens and the orignal value just pops back up ? ive looked around and cant find how to fix it? any help would be appreciated

Your object is probably under control of an operator (constraint, expression, ...). Take a look at the object's global and local transform tabs in the object's PPG. The animation divot should give you a clue what's going on based on the icon.

If it's subcomponents you're having problems with, then there's probably a deformation operator on the object's operator stack. Check the object's construction history in a scene explorer.
