Hi there
I have responded to this question over in the crymod forums, as many people over there have been asking the same thing.
CryExporter and animations.
The current version of the exporter (2.4) only suports static objects only. Many people have requested animation support and it is coming. Softimage and Crytek are both working together to deliver this feature. I have been using an updated exporter with animation supported, for testing. So far the results overall have been good.
Unfortunately, I cannot give you a precise date and time, as to when the next release of the exporter will come. Though please remember that current release is still only a Beta, so there are still some minor bugs in there that require fixing and testing.
Since its first release, the response and feedback using the XSI exporter has been extremely positive. The more feedback we receive, direct or via these forums, all helps in archieving a better quality and stable exporter. So when the next release arrives, we can be confident that its good enough for the end user.

Unfortunately not yet, but I hope soon as possible...
Probably they'll integrate some of the cool features within XSI, otherwise I can't explain why it takes so long :(

Crytek and Softimage know many of you want this feature, and we want to get it to you as soon as possible. But we do not want to rush something out that's unstable and problematic. Other than modders, we also have many professional users and studios waiting for this feature, so this would not help anyone. We want to be confident that when animation support does arrive, it will be good and stable enough for you (the end user) to use.
Don't worry its coming. In the meantime, get learning the animation tools in XSI, frankly they're the best around. :)

2 months later...and? ... there was a lot of talk in May that you were using a beta, but we are almost in August now...have you guys given up on the animation exporter?

hi there
There have been some recent discussion over on the Crymod forums about the animation support, and I can tell basically the same answer.
The simple answer is no, we have not given up on the animation exporter. It is still being done and we are hopeful of an annoucement and first release very very very very soon. :)
I know that we have been mentioning the animation support for a while and we know you guys want it, me included. :) But there has been some issues and bugs that people from here and the Crymod forums had fed back to us, and the fixing of these issues, we and Crytek felt, has been a higher priority.
I am unable to give you an actual date of the release, but I can say that its pretty close. I know we keep saying that, and all I can say is thanks for your patience, it will be rewarded hopefully soon. :)

Good to hear Bellsey, ...it's just that after Crytek announced they were dropping the 1.3 patch to concentrate on Warhead...I thought maybe the XSI plugin relationship with them may have suffered to.
We look forward to the next plugin release :)
