Well I'm building a computer soon based around 3D apps.
http://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/wishlist/PublicWishDetail.asp?WishListNumber=8842928
2 Quad-core processors.
4 Gigs of ram (for now)
8800GTS

How well would this work for XSI, and any suggestions?

My goal was to build a $5,000 mac for $2,000.

If you want to save even more money i would hit up ebay. You can find tons of used server parts for really cheap.

hey mate, nice system! Maybe you can buy 8gb of normal ram instead of 4gb server ram.

actually I'm cutting back on the build, I've heard many people having issues with the 2 processor thing, and it was a bit more money than I wanted to spend, so I'm just gonna get a single quadcore system with everything with it. (first time building my own pc)

+1

It would IMO be a complete waste of money - and you can use your warranty if you happen to get faulty mem somewhere in the future. I've earlier used some really cheap and crappy non-ECC mem, and haven't had problems.

I have a 2 procs system (2 x dual core opterons) and i had no problem with the system stability.
I now have a quad core intel proc, faster and a lot cheaper.

what kind of issues ?

i own 2x quad xeon and everthing runs smoooth ;)
and 8x2,4=19,4 ghz is still more than overclocked single quad 4x3,5=14ghz - but xeons are pricey (price of mobo x3, price of RAM x2 than for single based mobo)

Despite I own xeons, I would buy now single quadcore because of a)money b) most of operations are single-threaded

EDIT: I just clicked on your newegg link and WOW...the prices here in Poland are 3 times higher... so if I were in your position I would go for 2x3ghz xeon=24ghz...
