here is little project, middle resolution model, real world building, vertical and horizontal lines are like this because their are thin, can be fixed with anti-aliasing, but that's death penalty to render time, still finding way to solve problem, but as you can see, when textured and render that's ok. c&c welcome

if u like it, more images to come

Something bothers me on GI... What did you use to light this scene? It is a very nice building but it loses in render...

Try Physical sun and Sky.... Begin with 100 rays in FG and increase it on your final render... Also make an AO Pass and multiply it on your final image...

It lacks realism... Don't be afraid to increase render times as long as you get better results...

Cheers!

With MR 3.5 I almost never used AO.
With Physical Sky/Sun, left FG setting that's given by default, and Simple Tone Mapping, it should render fast with really acceptable result.
If you need AO, try the AO inside architectural material which gives more subtle result.

cheers.

tnx, for the reply. Yes I used AO, obviously i shouldn't :D, i totally forgot about physical sun
here is render with final gather, later, I'll put some textures

Especially for exterior, it's pretty easy to setup the lighting.
You can play with simple tone mapping to boost the low light as well as dampen harsh highlight.

little textures update (i used mia_material a.k.a. architectural mat. for glass) still not perfect but I'll try to improve it

Too reflective, I'd say... but keep tweaking!

If I were you, for preview purpose, I would lowering Horizon-Height to, like -1 or -2, to get rid off those gray horizon. Sometimes it disturbs.

If you have a great attention to details, you would need to tinker the glass work, as sometimes it needs irregularity. No glass window is perfect flat.

cheers

tnx for all the replies
- i see it looks to reflective :(, i'm trying to deal with that
- considering no flat glass exist, i had that in mind, so i added a little bump on each window

geometry of this object and building in real world is unique, so i had to model metal separations between floors, and in every second floor, there is a window (so it can be opened from inside) and that was little tricky.

here is latest picture of overall render
http://xs226.xs.to/xs226/08150/n010592.jpg.xs.jpg (http://xs.to/xs.php?h=xs226&d=08150&f=n010592.jpg)

i attached 2 pictures, one is from real world, aimed to show how wicked & reflective glass is, and second, is render attempt of that "distortion" glass. Obviously bump is too high, I'll try to lower it tomorrow. :D

it's definitely challenging... looking forward to seeing what you'll manage to come up with!

I like the distortion in the very last pic. Unfortunately in overall render there's no object to be seen in reflection. Do you fancy to use reflection map?

nice work.

tnx, yes, i will try to make real world reflection map (if i find time:P)

sry for awaking dead thread, but i have some new renders :)

hope i will have some time in future to finalize this

Nice job and good improvements!

I get this weird feeling like the signs on the top of the buildings are floating. Maybe some holding structures casting proper shadows would help "grounding" them somehow. Also, something about horizon height seems a bit odd but I just can't quite point out what it is. Maybe it's just me...

Good job!

Leo.

i'll try to fix it, tnx
